Bedroom Makeover: Stage 1!
05:34
I'm currently in the process of re-doing my room, which believe me, has been a looooong time coming! The majority of the things in my room would be outdated by at least 10 years (I have a lamp from the 70s). I've had the same room for approximately 8 years, including bedsheets (can I get a collective "YIKES"?!) and this absolutely hideous colour-patch rug which my dad seems to lust over. Needless to say, I have been ashamed to reveal my room to anyone for the past 7 of those 8 years, so doing it up now is one of the best things I've done for myself in a long time!
Thinking through my ideal bedroom, I imagined it to be all white with pops of fun colours everywhere; somewhere cozy and comfortable yet also fresh and inspiring. My room is also rather tiny, so anything crazy would just be a bit in-your-face, so I was pleased with the somewhat simple image I'd conjured in my head!
I found the perfect bedsheets (I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a nice white bedspread! It seemed to be more complex than going on a wild goose chase!), and they are permanently crinkly. Awww yeah! Just my style, no ironing needed ladies and gentlemen. I then found a magnificent bed, which, although is not my ideal white bed frame but a chestnut brown, is still wonderful when paired with my dreamy duvet.
Getting these two together in my room to replace my single bed with a maroon, orange, pink and green bedspread (I had such lovely taste as a child) was the first step I wanted to take. It all arrived a few days ago, so on the day my bed was to arrive, with new mattress, I should add, I set out to tearing my room apart and cleaning it to beyond an inch of it's life!
That's part of my room once I'd taken out my original bed, rolled up my hideous malting rug and moved my bedside table underneath my desk (I'm a making-space genius!). Don't mind the mess, I generally just shoved everything I found under my bed and whatever was on top of my bedside table onto my desk.
After clearing the space, it was then time to get down and dirty!
(A lovely across-the-room selfie. Boredom, especially from cleaning, tends to do this to me)
(Unfortunately this face was necessary)
I attacked the place with the vacuum and my trusty spray 'n' wipe, and then the guys (the rather incredibly attractive guys, might I add) arrived with my bed and everything was wonderful! Until I realised I had to piece it all together... But, an hour or five later, I ended up with this:
And this, I am rather pleased with! I grabbed the yellow cushion from the couch, and the blue silky soft throw I had bought from Adairs on sale (bargain!) in advance. Weee! Now all I need is to get some proper bright cushions, replace my blinds, get a new desk, get a nice non-patchy rug, wardrobe, light, chest of drawers... not too much to do, not too much at all.
<insert face-palm here>
Also, I have a question for you all, yay or nay to fairy lights? I've always wanted some as they seem so magical, but a close source of mine says they're tacky. I'd never thought of them as such, but I just need to know if I'm in the minority! Also, I've been tinkering with the idea of getting those miniature lantern fairy lights too. I'd love to know what you think!
